I’m also a queer, genderfluid person with ADHD, anxiety, chronic depression, and fluctuating energy levels, and an impulsive obsession with houseplants. 

I created the first version of my Requirements to Work With Me page back in 2020, in the midst of the BLM resurgence. It was my way of making where I stood clear and explicit.

Since then, people have only become even more values-driven with their purchases, especially when it involves high-ticket investments, learning from them, or ongoing payments, but even beyond that!

The longer I had my values up and explicit where anyone giving me money was sure to see them, the better and better I felt about it.

Every single high-ticket done-for-you client has let me know how much they loved that page. Many of them used the term “Hell yes!”

In addition to just LOVING the clients that I’ve worked with since then, it also gave me so much comfort in my business to be myself as a queer and nonbinary person.

Constantly having to come out to people (or wonder if they know) is fucking exhausting (iykyk). With this page, I never have to worry about that anymore! And honestly, it’s been a huge relief.

And if you’re worried about the “rest” that you’ll be repelling – in over 3 years of having this page, I’ve only ever gotten one (relatively polite) negative email. Which I think is amazing, all things considered!

Now, I’m pulling back the curtain on exactly how I put this page together, and the strategy and logic behind each decision I made in the process, so that you can attract the best-fit people, and repel the rest, too 🤗

Going through Attract the Best, Repel the Rest itself will take less than an hour (all the videos added up only comes to 38ish mins). I kept it short and sweet so you can dive straight into creating your own Req to Work With Me page as fast as possible.

Actually writing and creating your own Requirements to Work With Me page will only take an hour or two! And once it’s created, it’ll start working for you right away

Yes, you absolutely do need to pay the bills, I totally get that and I won’t discredit that true, valid, very real material need. 

At the same hand, I also want to acknowledge the harm that can be done to you by working with someone who genuinely doesn’t share your values (especially if you’re someone with a marginalized identity).

A big part of why making these values explicit is to protect you from that experience. That’s one reason why I decided to do this in my own business, as a queer and genderfluid person.

But also I don’t want to remove your agency by telling you that you should prioritize that over paying the bills.

I totally recognize that it’s possible that the harm of not making that revenue could be greater than the harm of working with someone who doesn’t share your values. Only you know if that’s the case for you, and I absolutely respect that.

Everyone’s lived experience is different, and everyone’s priorities are different, and you have the right to make that choice for yourself.

You won’t need any extra apps or software to create this. As long as you have a website, and a page on that website where you share your offers (like an Everything Page or a Work With Me page or a Start Here page), this strategy will fold directly into what you already have built. 

If you don’t have a page like that, this could be your chance to create one!

For example, all my offers have their own unique sales pages. But my Requirements to Work With Me page was also my Start Here page, where I listed all my offers, and I linked to their individual sales pages from there.

Ooh way to go full Sherlock on me!

I used this strategy when my business was more focused on offering services.

Now that my business is more focused on courses and group programs, I don't have a Requirements to Work With Me Page.

BUT I've adapted the strategy for this new business model, and I plan to add a module to the course later this year to talk about that as well!

The course is broken up into short video lessons ranging from 2-10 minutes. All the videos have clean subtitles and playback speed control, as well as a detailed written version of the lesson alongside the video.
